See

The village of See is located south of Lupburg not far away from the valley of the Black Laaber.

Historically See is considered the prime parish of the region which was ruled by the line of Parsberger (933 - 1730). Its origin is lost in the mists of history, nevertheless we assume that the St. Martin church at See is one of the oldest foundations of the Karolingers. The king's estate was the starting point of the development of the surrounding countryside. The villages of Dettenhofen, Seibertshofen and Willenhofen give a hint to that. The development took place along the imperial road which lead through the Laaber valley from Regensburg to Nuremberg and Bamberg. In the year 1007 a king's estate is mentioned and there is documentary evidence that in the same year emperor Heinrich II had a stop over in See. The interior of the church is first of all influenced by the extension in 1882. At that time the fresco at the ceiling was renovated in an appealing manner. The series of paintings have a strong influence and they represent the rosary brotherhood founded in 1706 and show the mystery of the rosary in an impressive way. The altars carved in new Roman-Byzantine style are pretty works of the wood-carver G. Pongratz of Amberg. In the course of the comprehensive renovation 1980 - 1983 great care was taken to complete the preservation and restoration as it was at the end of the 19th century. The parish of See still has its own legal entity. Now the parish priest of Lupburg is in charge of the parish See as well.

In 1972 the former community of See, comprising the villages of Seibertshofen, Niederhofen and Dettenhofen, was integrated in the political community of Lupburg and presently has 528 inhabitants.
