History Of Markt Lupburg

The name Lupburg was first mentioned in 960 AD. In a document dated 1129 AD a Ludwig von Lupburg is cited. The death of Konrad of Lupburg, who was elected bishop of Regensburg in 1296, ended the line of Lupburg in the year 1313.

In subsequent times the domain Lupburg, and therefore the castle, were property of the diocese of Regensburg. In 1387 Duke Friedrich of Bavaria purchased the domain. His successor pawned the castle and the village for 5.000 florins to those of Parsberg. They were the rulers of Lupburg until 1572. In that year Lupburg became the property of the dukedom of Pfalz-Neuburg and seat of a trusteeship including jurisdiction. Under the rule of count palatine Philipp Ludwig Lupburg again was vested with the market rights and with its own coat of arms. When the kingdom of Bavaria was established in 1806 the Lupburg trusteeship was disbanded. After that time the community of Lupburg governed itself whereas the castle became the property of a private person and later the property of the county of Neumarkt.

Since a government reform the former independent communities of See and Degerndorf became part of the community Markt Lupburg.
